Giving back: charities and philanthropy
Bekins gives backs to the communities in which it serves -- a philosophy that is embedded in Bekins' corporate culture. Here are a few organizations with which Bekins has taken a leading role:
Move For Hunger - A not-for-profit organization, Move For Hunger aligns interstate agents for Bekins Van Lines and its customers with local food banks associated with Feeding America. During the relocation process, Bekins agents offer to pick up customers' unwanted nonperishable items and deliver them directly to the local food bank. It's a win-win for all parties - food banks get a much needed boost all year long, customers feel good about the donation (and may even offset some of the cost of their move by reducing the weight of heavier canned goods), and Bekins participates in a nationwide initiative to combat hunger. Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tissue Bank at the IU Simon Cancer Center - The Tissue Bank collects blood and tissue sample from donors and makes the samples available to researchers across the globe who are seeking to find a cure for breast cancer. Wheaton World Wide Moving, Bekins parent company, embarked on a relationship with the Tissue Bank in 2008 by transporting and setting up the blood sample collection equipment in Dallas, Texas. Since that time, Bekins has transported equipment for the Tissue Bank to collections across the country. Visit KomenTissueBank.IU.edu to learn more about the Susan G.
