After six decades with Allied Van Lines, Mathis Moving &
Storage Co., is making a move. Beginning March 31, Mathis will
become an interstate agent for Bekins Van Lines, which will make
Mathis the first Bekins agent serving Columbus and surrounding
Mathis also is the first agent to sign with Bekins, since the company was acquired in March 2012, by Wheaton World Wide Moving, making it among the largest and most respected moving companies in the country with more than 370 Bekins and Wheaton agents nationwide.
“Wheaton is just doing things right,” Gary Mathis said, referring to how the company has continued to expand and integrate the Bekins brand into the Wheaton family. “It’s just a refreshing philosophy that is built around helping individual Bekins and Wheaton agents succeed.”
Mathis Moving will continue to operate at 90 Norton Ave., in Newark, and its entire fleet of trucks is getting a facelift to add the Bekin logo. Internally, the company is working to expand its market share in Central Ohio, as it enters the busiest time of the year for movers – May through September.
“We could not be more pleased to bring Mathis into our family,” said Mark Kirschner, CEO of Bekins Van Lines. “This is a marriage of two organizations that share the same goals of taking care of our customers’ needs, treating their possessions as if they were our own and making sure the move goes as smoothly as possible.”
Mathis grew up in the moving business, which his dad started in the 1940s with a pick-up truck. The company has 12 full-time employees and will continue to grow as the company expands, giving Columbus residents another choice in the moving business.
