Managing Stress While Moving

January 25, 2019 | Moving Guides & Tips

Plan Your Move

Before you begin the moving process, develop a plan and a schedule as early as possible. This will allow you to divide your move into smaller, more manageable pieces and set aside time to accomplish each stage. Using a moving checklist can help to keep yourself organized and on track.

Set a Moving Budget

Money can be a source of worry, but not if you plan ahead of time. Obtain quotes from moving companies so you know how much your move will cost and you can create a moving budget. Make sure to ask questions of each representative about exactly what is included to ensure the mover’s services meet your needs. Also, make sure the mover is fully accredited by the AMSA ProMover program.

Ask for Help

Ask friends and family to help with moving-related tasks, such as packing a few boxes or watching the kids while you pack. Give them plenty of advance notice so they can prepare to help you. Consider sweetening the deal by offering to buy them pizza during moving day.

Research Your New Area

Familiarize yourself with your new neighborhood. After checking out the essentials, such as medical providers and schools, look into fun activities, restaurants and area attractions near your new home. Having a frame of reference helps put you at ease when moving to a new area, and you may just find your new favorite hangout in the process.
