Top Out-of-State Move Destinations for 2021

July 8, 2021 | Household Moves, Moving Guides & Tips

After a year and a half fighting a pandemic, many Americans are looking to embrace the trends toward remote work, fleeing major cities, and moving closer to family. The real estate market has been hot in 2021, and you can thank low interest rates for piquing the interest in moving. Bekins Van Lines has made the decision easier for you; well, it might be hard after you read about all these wonderful places.

Here are the top five states people are moving to and a little bit about each one.

Idaho.

This may come as a shock to you, but the Gem State has become a popular move destination. Moscow and Boise are just two of the thriving cities that Idaho has to offer you.

In the state’s capital, Boise, you’ll find many outdoor activities to enjoy on the Boise River. And when you’re tired out from the sun, downtown Boise is home to several wineries and breweries that reflect Boise’s energy and passion.

Moscow’s Arts Program is dedicated to celebrating the expression of all art forms and culture. Third Street Gallery inside City Hall is where you’ll find a variety of media, subject matter and content while still getting to experience various cultures and art forms.

South Carolina.

Charleston, Greenville and Columbia are three vibrant cities that make the South shine.

Charleston has a rich history and is home to Fort Sumter, the USS Yorktown and Drayton Hall, America’s oldest unrestored plantation built in 1738. You won’t want to miss the many ghost tours or the famed food tours either.

In downtown Greenville, you’ll find the famous Liberty Bridge at Falls Park and a lively nightlife to keep you entertained. Named one of National Geographic’s Best Small Towns to Live In, Greenville has something for everyone.

And you can’t forget Columbia, home to the University of South Carolina. This capital city has everything from the Columbia Museum of Art to Congaree National Park, so you’re sure to find something you enjoy.

Oregon.

The Pacific Northwest has many desirable cities, like Bend and Portland.

Bend is unique in that its city is divided into four quadrants with each one housing neighborhoods with their own personality and flair. With its home on the eastern edge of the Cascade range, Bend boasts activities for sun and snow.

Oregon’s largest city, Portland, has a multitude of microbreweries and coffeehouses and its fair share of bicycle paths and parks to keep you active. Washington Park is a destination for all with the Oregon Zoo, the Japanese Garden and its railway.

South Dakota.

The Mount Rushmore State has more to offer than just Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the Badlands National Park. Sioux Falls and Rapid City are two unique cities that make South Dakota stand out.

Sioux Falls has more than 70 parks to enjoy, and Falls Park in the downtown area holds the city’s great history.

Located in the Black Hills, Rapid City takes you back in time to 1880 where you can wander an old-style town and take a two hour tour on the Black Hills Central Railroad steam engine train cars. Just 30-minutes southwest of Rapid City you can find the iconic Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse attractions.

Arizona.

Two places in Arizona you won’t want to miss are Phoenix and Gilbert.

Gilbert is an up-and-coming tourist destination. Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch will satisfy all your bird watching desires. Home to over 298 species of birds, this location in the Sonoran Desert is sure to excite. Downtown Gilbert is known as the Heritage District. It’s a food-lover’s paradise with over 30 restaurants to choose from.

Phoenix is a sports lover’s dream, housing the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, NBA’s Phoenix Suns and NHL’s Arizona Coyotes. Always a fan favorite, Phoenix is home to the MLB’s spring training and always brings in new tourists.
