Welcoming Friends and Family to Your New Home

May 3, 2019 | Moving Guides & Tips

Now that you’ve found your new home, the real fun begins — the party! Hosting a housewarming party is a wonderful way to welcome friends and family to your new home and can also help you meet your new neighbors. Read on to learn about a few tips and tricks to make sure your party is a success.

Wait

While it may seem tempting to schedule your party immediately upon move-in, don’t. Plan it for at least a week after move-in day. This will give you ample time to unpack and familiarize yourself with your new home. A relaxed host is a happy host.

Open House Format

An open house format works well for housewarming parties and encourages people to drop in. Most of your guests will be curious about your new home, so we suggest planning a master tour during your party to show off your new space.

Keep It Simple

Keeping a simple food menu of finger foods and heavy hors d’oeuvres will promote mingling and make party prep a breeze. A self-service bar will allow your guests to help themselves to their choice of beverage and enable you to properly welcome guests. To promote a healthy flow of traffic, we recommend setting up your food and beverage area away from the front door.

Be a Good Host

Keeping extra toilet paper, toiletries, soap, and hand towels accessible in your bathrooms will make your guests feel welcome and prevent people from going through your medicine cabinet.

Invite Your New Neighbors

Your housewarming party is the perfect opportunity to get to know your new neighbors. Head over and introduce yourself. While you’re there, invite them to your party. It is a great way to learn about your new neighborhood and make new friends.

Have Fun

You made it through the moving process. Now it is time to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor with friends and family. Cheers!
