Quality Packing Materials Protect Your Belongings

April 2, 2013 | Packing Guides & Tips

Packing can seem like a daunting process. According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau statistics, more than 37 million Americans – or about 13 percent – move to a different home every year. Whether you are one of those people or if you move every five-to-seven years, you still have to gather quality packing materials and pack your belongings for safe transportation.

If you are self-starter and prefer packing your own belongings, it’s important to start with quality packing materials and a plan. Quality packing materials will protect your prized possessions and alleviate damage on transit.

Consult our Bekins packing guide for descriptions and sizes of the various cartons for specific items and also what to do with items, such as electronic equipment, that may require special preparation.

When packing your own items, consider the floor layout of your new home – this will be conducive to the movers who will be able to accurately deliver your items based on the rooms you organized. At Bekins, we suggest starting at least three weeks before your scheduled move date.

Unprinted newsprint should be used for wrapping and padding. Do NOT use newspaper as the ink can damage items.
